Answers to Common Questions about Chiropractic and Owens Chiropractic & Laser Center

Dr. Kent Owens can answer any questions you or your family may have before scheduling an appointment.  Please feel free to browse these questions and answers, and if you need any additional information or you don't see the answer to your questions, please feel free to call (352) 448-6812.  Dr. Owens will answer the call or call back quickly.

While there are many questions you may have prior to visiting the office, we understand that there are really 3 main questions after you arrive:

  1. Can you help me?
  2. How long will it take?
  3. How much will it cost?

A patient-centered approach to care involves clearly answering these questions after a thorough consultation and exam.  It absolutely does not include overstating a patient's condition to scare them into accepting more care, asking for up-front payments for an entire year of care, or scheduling a patient for one treatment per week for the rest of their life.

Chiropractors are primary care physicians that diagnose and treat biomechanical problems in the spinal bones and other joints.  Education requires a 4-year Bachelor's degree and a 4-year Doctorate.  Chiropractors are an excellent choice for neck pain, back pain, and headaches for a conservative approach that is safe and effective.

Treatment duration depends on your diagnosis, the severity of your symptoms, your past medical history, and other factors.  Our job is to reduce your pain and then recommend the bare minimum amount of treatment you need to maintain your lifestyle and live free of pain.

We see and treat patients for a wide range of conditions, from neck pain to lower back pain and sciatica.  Please visit our Services for an extensive list of conditions we treat.  With the added benefit of Class 4 Laser Therapy, we can also treat neuropathy, bursitis, plantar fascitis, frozen shoulder, and more.

Chiropractors do much more than crack backs.  The audible sound you hear with most adjustments is the release of nitrogen gas when a joint is stretched and moved slightly past its end range.  This frees up movement, blocks pain signals to the brain, and slows down the rate of degenerative changes and arthritis.  There are a variety of techniques that Dr. Owens can use to accomplish similar results without producing the anxiety or fear some people experience with "cracking."

We accept all forms of insurance, even though we are not in each coverage's network.  We will check with your health insurance during your consultation to be able to charge accurate fees.  Medicare and auto accident insurance covers the majority of your necessary visits, and most other commercial insurances have a simple copay structure.

X-ray imaging is a must if we have reason to suspect a fracture.  X-ray is highly recommended when spinal stenosis is a possiblity, or when a seemingly simple problem is not resolved as quickly as expected.  In the majority of cases, care can begin without x-rays.  When necessary, we refer to imaging facilities for digital x-rays.

No.  Chiropractors are primary care physicians, so you may schedule with us directly at any time without a referral from your doctor.  We will be happy to share your records and progress with your primary care MD if you give us permission to do so.

You can get in touch by phone (352) 448-6812 or use the form under the contact page.  You may also text the same number and request the day and time you prefer.  On most days, same-day appointments will be available Monday-Thursday.  Scheduling, like many of our processes, is very easy and stress-free.
